Introduction

The villages in India are full of agricultural potential, yet the youth and farmers lack proper opportunities. Krishi Bandhu, an initiative of Krishiverse, is the main reason behind the empowerment of rural youth which is the silent result of bridging this gap. Through a combination of technology, start-up spirit, and skills training, the program is turning around the villages. It is aimed at the formation of the farmer-innovators who are the agents of the link between the farming community and the modern agriculture solutions. In the end, it is all about establishing the local economies that can sustain themselves.

The Vision Behind Krishi Bandhu

Krishi Bandhu is a program that intends to impart knowledge such as technological skills and business acumen to the rural youth. After the program, participants become capable of marketing and selling smart agricultural devices in their local areas. This program is meant for young people of age 18 and over, and at least Class 10 educated. One of its objectives is to cultivate leaders who are not dependent on anyone and are able to lead the progress of the village.

Empowering Youth as Agri-Entrepreneurs

Krishi Bandhus are given a 10 km radius area within which they are to function as micro-business owners. They go to farmers and personally promote farm innovations and also sell them. With each sale they get a commission and along with it, they receive a monthly stipend of ₹2000. Youth get money on their own which is one of the ways to attract them and they still can help the local agriculture. This model at the bottom of the pyramid level fosters the formation of entrepreneurial skills as well as the acquisition of leadership qualities.

Building Value Chains with Technology

The program connects villages with modern agricultural value chains. Krishi Bandhus bring instruments such as precision irrigation, soil sensors, and crop management devices to the villages. Farmers take up efficient and cost-saving practices, thereby making productivity soar. Youth serve as the link between the technology and the farmers’ traditional ways. Such a merger not only fortifies the local agricultural markets but also helps to develop sustainable business ecosystems.

Training and Skill Development

Training constitutes the very core of Krishi Bandhu and it is a comprehensive program that imparts sales, communication, and digital marketing skills to the participants. The young generation are taught how to present the usage of a piece of equipment and convince the farmers with the help of such demonstrations. Besides, they acquire problem-solving, leadership, and negotiation skills as well. These skills, in turn, equip them to face the challenges of the real world that come up in Agri-based entrepreneurial ventures. The initiative is, in effect, turning out the mocked-farming youths into bold leaders of agri-business.

Promoting Innovation and Community Growth

The main contribution of Krishi Bandhus is that they lead the way in using smart tools thus rural farming becomes innovative. The farmers get a first-hand experience of modern techniques which help them to save their time and other resources. The youth’s involvement has been very instrumental in the fast acceptance of digital and precision agriculture. The communities become very happy with the great improvements in the efficiency and productivity that have resulted. Eventually, rural areas turn into technologically advanced, selfreliant centres of agri-business that thrive on the interaction of local and global markets.

Conclusion

Krishi Bandhu is a perfect example of how these three components, the youth, technology, and entrepreneurial spirit can totally change the rural economies. It not only helps to lengthen the agricultural value chains but also contributes to making the farmers financially independent and turning them into leaders, the program being a vehicle for this transformation. The initiative is turning the farming sector into a source of sustainable micro-businesses which, in turn, become the fountain of youth employment opportunities. Through the implementation of the Krishiverse project, which connects villages with state-of-the-art agricultural techniques, rural India is getting ready for the future and is, therefore, no longer vulnerable. It is a model that can be easily transplanted to other areas for the purpose of community empowerment through innovation, and skill development.
