Step 1: Confirm You're Actually Eligible
The scheme is built around the “farmer family” — husband, wife, and minor children — who collectively own cultivable land as recorded in their state or Union Territory's official land records, with that ownership dating back to before 1 February 2019. Institutional landholders, income tax payees, pensioners drawing above a specified monthly pension, and serving or retired holders of certain government and constitutional posts are excluded. If your land records aren't updated in your name yet, sort that out at your local revenue office first — the application can't move forward without it.
Step 2: Gather Your Documents Before You Start

Step 3: Register on the Official Portal
Go to the official PM-KISAN portal and select “New Farmer Registration,” then choose Rural or Urban Farmer Registration depending on where your land is located. Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, and state to begin. The same registration can also be completed through the official PM-KISAN mobile app, which additionally supports facial authentication for e-KYC if biometric devices aren't available nearby.
Step 4: Fill in Your Personal, Bank, and Land Details
Complete the form with your personal information, bank account number and IFSC code, and land details from your Khasra/Khatauni records. Enter everything exactly as it appears on your official documents — a spelling mismatch between your Aadhaar and your bank account is the most common reason applications get stuck in verification.
Step 5: Complete e-KYC — This Step Is Now Mandatory

If you're in any of these states, visit your nearest Common Service Centre or block-level agriculture office to get this ID — without it, your instalments can be held up even after a successful registration.
Step 7: Submit and Save Your Registration Number
Review every field carefully before submitting — there is no simple in-app edit once it's gone for verification. On submission, you'll receive a registration number; save it immediately, since you'll need it to check your status, complete future e-KYC updates, or correct any details later. From here, your form is automatically routed to the local revenue officer and then the State Nodal Officer for verification, so there's nothing further to do but wait and check status periodically.
No Online Access? Apply Offline Instead
Farmers who aren't comfortable applying online can visit an authorised Common Service Centre or their block-level agriculture office for assisted registration. The process and documents required are the same; a CSC operator simply enters the details on your behalf. Always confirm you're at an authorised centre — the registration itself is free, and any large fee requested for basic registration is a red flag.
How to Check Your Application Status
Once registered, use the “Beneficiary Status” option on the official portal and enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number, or registration number to see whether your application is pending, approved, or has flagged an issue that needs correction.
A Word of Caution
Use only the official portal or the official PM-KISAN mobile app for registration — fraudulent third-party websites and unauthorised agents charging fees for “guaranteed approval” are a recurring problem with a scheme this widely used. Registration itself, along with checking your status and completing e-KYC, is entirely free.
