For the middle farmers, who grow in more than one plot or have a borewell system, the app-based controllers, which range between ₹5,000 to 10,000, come with additional features like scheduling, real-time alerts, and multiple motor support. A 5-acre farm in Gujarat that incorporated a smart controller with a solar system saw a 50% drop in energy expenses and saved more than 20 hours of manual labour every week — well worth the investment of the smart controller within a single growing season. The payback period for remote pump controllers is less than 1 year, even without subsidies. It can be as quick as 3-4 months with government subsidies.
